I was born in Alamosa Colorado. My family moved to Denver Colorado when I was five years old. I attended the University of Denver obtaining a Bachelors Degree with a major in Political Science and Elementary Education. I married my high school sweetheart Jim Plattner. We have two sons named Timothy and Ken. While in Denver I accomplished a lot. I was elected to the State Democratic Convention, elected to the Neighborhood Committee and nominated as best elementary school teacher in Colorado. I taught third and fourth grade in the Denver Public School system. After spending many years in Denver, we moved to Washington State for a short time and then onto Sunnyvale California.
I became the Director/Teacher of Sunnyvale Parent Preschool which was named the best preschool in San Jose by the San Jose Mercury News while I was the Director of the school. During my time there, I wrote a series of Teachers Guides named "Explore, Discover, Connect" published later by Simon & Shuster. My first husband passed away after 24 years of marriage. I later married Larry Shulkin whom I have been married to for 21 years now. I have ten grandchildren and two amazing step children, Greg and Paula. I also worked as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Solel Preschool in Arizona. I have been a teacher at BCNS for 3 years now and have over 45 years of teaching experience.
I currently hold teaching credentials in Denver, Nebraska, South Dakota, and California. I also have a California Adult Education, California Community College Instructor and an ESL teaching credential.
I sang in Verdi's Requiem conducted by by the first female orchestra conductor, Antonio Brico. I enjoy walking with my dog Freddie, traveling all over the World and love to cook/bake. I feel each day is a blessing-one of the biggest blessings in being a staff member at BCNS.
